On Friday night, Longview traveled to Rockwall to for their third consecutive road game as they met the Rockwall Yellowjackets in the 10-6A opener at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium.
Longview jumped out of the gate early with a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. The Lobos and Jackets battled back and forth in the final three quarters as Longview came away with a 35-21 win.

KING RETURNS AS LONGVIEW OPENS WITH DISTRICT WIN

With head coach and athletic director John King working from the press box in a return from a cancer diagnosis last month, the Longview Lobos opened District 10-6A play with a 35-21 win over the Rockwall Yellowjackets on Friday at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium.
Rockwall, which entered the game ranked No. 17 in Class 6A, drops to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in district play. The Lobos, ranked No. 18 entering Friday's action, moved to 3-2 and 1-0.

On Friday night, Longview traveled to Ruston, Louisiana to take on the Bearcats at James Field at L.J. Hoss Garrett Stadium.
Despite grabbing a 21-16 lead in the second quarter, Longview struggled to slow down the Ruston attack all night and saw the Bearcats escaped on a last second field goal, 38-35.

ANOTHER HEARTBREAKER: LONGVIEW FALLS TO RUSTON, 38-35

Joaquin Ramos kicked a 21-yard field goal as time expired, lifting the Ruston Bearcats to a 38-35 win over the Longview Lobos on Friday at Hoss Garrett Stadium.
The loss drops the Lobos to 2-2 on the year. Longview will be idle this coming week and then open District 10-6A play at Rockwall on Oct. 3.

On Friday night, the Longview Lobos traveled to #2 Dallas South Oak Cliff at John E. Kincaide Stadium.
In a back and forth affair, Longview took a 4-point lead into the fourth quarter. The Golden Bears then showed why they've continually reached the State Championship in the last few years as they rallied past the Lobos, 20-17.

KING WILL COACH THROUGH CANCER DIAGNOSIS

Longview Lobo head football coach and athletic director John King informed the Longview News-Journal on Monday he has been diagnosed with mouth cancer, but intends to continue his coaching duties until a procedure is done at some point in the near future.
"It's something hopefully they can cut out...no radiation," King said. "We're going to be proactive and do the procedure as soon as possible. Might be later this week, but the sooner the better."

HEARTBREAK AGAIN: DRAGONS BOOT FIELD GOAL TO EDGE LOBOS, 20-17

Longview battled Southlake Carroll throughout Saturday's UIL 6A Division II state semifinal at SMU's Gerald J. Ford Stadium, but came up short after a running into the kicker penalty set up the Dragons' eventual game-winning field goal attempt and 20-17 win.
