TYLER - The Tyler High School football team defeated the Longview High football team in a fast, clean and well played game. From the stuff that Tyler pulled yesterday, it seems that Tyler has at last hit her stride and will go up this year.
The Lions made their first touchdown when, after plunging the line for three successive first downs, Davis passed to Lyle, who made a fine catch and ran twenty yards for it. Davis kicked goal for the extra point on this play. Longview then received the ball on the kickoff and lost on the fourth down. After Tyler pushed it to the twenty yard line again, the Longview line stiffened and held Tyler for the downs. The quarter ended here. Score: Tyler 7, Longview 0. In the second quarter, the teams see-sawed in midfield, with Tyler holding the advantage at one time and Longview holding it the next. After the kickoff in the third quarter, Tyler held Longview for the downs and plunged the line again for the second touchdown, with Dyer carrying it over this time. Davis kicked goal for the extra point. Score: Tyler 14, Longview 0. In the fourth quarter, Tyler received the ball and went to the fifteen yard line. Here a try was made for a field goal, but the play was blocked. After the play, coach Foltz substituted his entire second team for the first team in order to run his men and give the rest a try-out. From all appearances, he has a fine showing for a good team next year. The first touchdown was made in the first five minutes of play. |
