JACKSONVILLE - Longview High School, after scoring six points in the third quarter of the football game in Jacksonville yesterday, was put on the defensive with a certain amount of their pep and punch game, and Jacksonville immediately set out to even the score.
They played the ball well down the field in the last part of the third quarter, and starting the fourth quarter on the three-yard line, completed a pass for a touchdown. Neither team was able complete the extra point after their touchdown. Rembert's pass to Dliler accounted for Longview's touchdown. Dliler received the ball and ran 45 yards. He was stopped on the one-yard line and then the ball was bucked across the line for the touchdown. Jacksonville started the ball down the field with a series of completed forward passes and two good ground gaining end runs. The inability of the Longview boys to stop the Jacksonville forward passes lost them the game, or rather deprived them of the 6 to 0 standing that might have resulted. McHaney played his usual smashing game, accounting for many of the losses sustained by the Jacksonville team, in fact there was little to complain of from the line of the local team. It was not in that department of the game that the local boys failed to show their superiority. In the first half, the ball was in Jacksonville's territory virtually all of the time, and the local team was able to maintain an offensive advantage until the game had gone well beyond the halfway mark - but then there came that costly showing up that turned a good offensive into a rather ragged defensive and tied score. |
