LONGVIEW - The Longview Lobos all but sewed up the District 11 crown Friday when they waded through a scrappy Marshall Maverick club 28 to 7 for their fifth straight conference victory here. Only Kilgore, whose Bulldogs spurted for two touchdowns in the final period against Tyler Friday night to win 21-12, can finish in a tie with the Lobos now.
The Lobos scored early in the first period when Bobo Bramlett blocked one of Y.A. Tittle's punts near midfield and Dean Sanford recovered it way down around the seven and lugged it across. Forrest Griff converted. Milton Pearson's interception of a Tittle pass set up the second score, Arthur Rowland's 12-yard smash scoring. Grigg converted again. Here Tittle got in the saddle and got the Mavs back in the game. He flipped a 24-yard aerial to Furrh for the score after a 22-yarder to LeRoy Root set it up. Warren converted. Robert Crowley left the bench long enough to score on the only chance he got to carry the ball. In the third he took the ball on a reverse and wove his way 47 yards for a score, aided by a beautiful block by Bramlett. Grigg converted. Jimmy Blakeley scored the final touchdown on a one-yard try over the middle and Grigg converted again. Friday the Gladewater Bears come to town and a win then will send the Wolves into the bi-district playoffs. |
