TEXARKANA - Longview, looking like the state championship team of 1937, coasted to a 20-to-6 victory over the Texarkana (Texas) High School Tigers in a District 11-AA grid game here Friday night.
Texarkana caught the Lobos napping early in the first quarter and blocked a punt, recovering the pigskin on the visitors' 33. Walraven dropped back, flipped a fifteen-yard pass to Dicus who scampered the remaining distance for the touchdown. After that, however, it was all Longview. Late in the second quarter the Lobos suddenly started goalward. Taking possession of the ball on their their own 33, Worsham shot two bullet-like passes to Griffith to put the ball deep in Texarkana territory. Scott smashed over center from the 1-yard line for the touchdown. Then Worsham put his team in front with a perfect extra point placement. Scott took the opening kickoff in the second half and raced ninety yards through the entire Tiger team for a touchdown. A blocked punt accounted for the final touchdown of the game. McKnight blocked Tiger Cox's attempted punt and Jim Carter recovered the ball over the Bengal goal line for the maker. Again Worsham kicked the extra point. |
