TIGERS KEEP LOBOS THROTTLED FOR 0-0 TIE
LONGVIEW - With each team kicking a chance to tally, the Longview Lobos and Texarkana Tigers played to a scoreless tie here Friday night in a District 9 conference game. It was the first time the Wolves had been held scoreless since Lufkin turned the trick in the bi-district game in December 1936. It was Longview's second tie of the season. The ball game was the Lobos' all the way but they bogged down when they got within striking distance. They outgained the Bengals, 146 yards to 49, from scrimmage.

The only sustained drive the Lobos put on was late in the second quarter when they took a punt on the 50-yard stripe and in three plays moved it to the three. There, however, they were thrown for a pair of losses and the half caught them back on the 7 with two downs remaining.

This was the only serious threat. It began when Miller passed 17 yards to Sapp. Sapp carried it 19 more to the 14 on a cutback and Worsham made a fist down on the 3. There the Tiger defense steeled and threw Sapp for a 5-yard loss and Fambrough for a 2-yard deficit before the timer's gun saved the score.

Early in the fourth period the Lobos took the ball deep In their own end of the field and opened up with a passing attack that nearly boomeranged. Passing from his 32, Miller flipped one that was intended for Sapp but Jenkins intercepted it about he 45 and ran it back to the 20, he was hit hard there, however, and fumbled, Miller recovering.

Most of the game was a punting dueling between Cox and Miller mostly, with the Tigers shading the Wolves, 36 to 33, in punting averages.

A wild Irishman named Casey who played left end for the Tigers was the individual star of the ball game. He played a great defensive game and was down under every punt by the time it reached the receiver.

Longview returned the five Tiger punts that stayed in bounds for a total of 12 yards, or 2.4 yards per return, and Casey, whose first name is Coy but who was anything but that, was the big reason. He did practically all the Tigers' pass receiving also.

Other Tiger sickouts were Jack Jenkins at guard, Nubby Thompson at guard, and James Sherrer. Watson's blocking was good also.

Don Fambrough, Lobo halfback, was the big noise for the Wolves but he was aided by Hardy Miller in the backfield and Bill Knox and Buddy Akin in the line. Those last two boys made the right side of the line a tough spot.

The game will, under District 9 rules, be counted half a game won and half a game lost for each team.
