HORNETS FADE AFTER THROWING SCARE INTO LOBOS
LONGVIEW - Lowell Parrish, formerly assistant coach here under Johnny Woodman, will bring his Texarkana Tigers to town this week for the second of the Lobos' 1938 conference tilts when the two clubs meet at Lobo Stadium Friday at 8 p.m.

Coach Parrish's crew, 7-0 victors over Kilgore in last week's tilt in Texarkana, is playing its first year under his tutelage but he has developed a strong club in one season.

The Wolves were in good shape after their 39-20 victory over Athens in Friday night's tilt here with only a few bruises and scratches gained from the tilt. Several men hurt in the Highland Park game should be able to get into top shape by Friday night.

Longview beat Athens in one of the wildest tilts ever seen on a Lobo field here, spotting the Hornets 13 points in the firs two periods. A second quarter rally, however, squared the count at half-time and they won going away with four more touchdowns in the last half.

The Hornets scored without losing the ball after taking the opening kickoff and looked even more impressive when, a few moments later, they added another. James Pennell scored them both after setting them up with long passes to Joe Loden and Jack Cobb.

Longview's first tally came up on a 19-yard jaunt by Sapp and the tying touchdowns as scored by Worsham on a pair of line smashes. The half ended three minutes later.

The Wolves started in earnest as the second half opened and scored within two minutes to take the lead. Worsham's reverse to Fambrough for 51 yards got within hailing distance of the Hornet goal and Sapp's 10-yard slice through center tallied.

A 61-yard drive ended in Worsham's scoring for another Lobo touchdown.

Line smashes after a short Hornet kick carried the overall downfield for another Lobo score, Sapp passing to Worsham in the flat for the touchdown, making the score 33-13.

The Lobos' final tally came in the early minutes of the last quarter when Sapp opened up an overhead attack and contact Miller for 21-yard and 11-yard gains, the latter scoring.

Athens wound up the point-making spree with a touchdown midway of the period when, aided by a Lobo penalty that placed the ball on the Longview one, Loden went over for a touchdown.

The game showed two things about the Lobo team - a few weak spots on pass defense and improved blocking during the second half. Pennell, Athens' one-man ball club, made the Wolves look silly all during the first period with a fine display of power running and dead long-range passing; but the Hornets folded up when he was forced from the game.

Don Fambrough, returning to the line up after a week's absence with an injured ankle, gave the best performance for the Lobos. He was never successfully stopped in his running game.

The Lobo blocking in the first period was sloppy but it showed vast improvement in the last half. And when it did, the Lobo score soared.
