LONGVIEW - The Longview Lobos are definitely in the State schoolboy championship race Friday night by virtue of their 26-to-0 win over Texarkana, while the Port Arthur eleven, which Longview trounced, 12 to 6, several weeks ago, was lacing the State champion Amarillo Sandies, 35 to 0.
Although held to only one touchdown in the first half, the Pack came back like a hurricane in the last two periods to dazzle the Bengals with their brilliant plays. The Lobo line was stronger than the Great Wall of China throwing the Tigers for more losses than they gained from scrimmage. The Lobos drew blood in the first stance when Dick Miller took Everett's punt and, after reversing the field and behind beautiful blocking by Burandt and Jordan, ran 68 yards for a touchdown. Cantrell converted. Dick Miller passed to Hardy Miller, his brother, for the next touchdown, and then went off tackle for 44 and the third marker. Again Cantrell converted. Worsham, a substitute, went over for the fourth touchdown after his pass to Morse had carried the ball to the 4-yard line. Worsham also converted. |
