| GARLAND - The Longview Lobos entered the playoffs with one of the hottest quarterbacks in the state, and Rowlett was unable to do anything to cool off Johnny Hamilton here Friday.
Mason Hamilton made sure future postseason opponents shouldn't forget to scheme for the running game. Hamilton passed for 228 yards and four touchdowns, and Washington rushed for 281 yards and three scores as the Lobos opened the Class 6A Division II playoffs with a commanding 63-7 win over Rowlett on Friday at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. The Lobos improved to 7-4 with the win and will advance to take on DeSoto next Friday in a 7 p.m. contest at Waco ISD Stadium. Rowlett ends the year with a 6-5 record. Hamilton, who has passed for 601 yards, 10 TDs and no interceptions in the last two regular season games for the Lobos, completed 15 of 22 passes and connected with six different receivers in the contest. Washington carried just 13 times, but scored on runs of 59, 73 and 87 yards. Jacaiden Davis threw a 68-yard TD pass to Key'Marion Pickron and also caught three passes for 49 yards. Jaden Hurndon hauled in five passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns, and Jayden Washington had two catches for 30 yards and two scores. The Lobos finished with 691 total yards - 296 passing and 395 rushing. Defensively, the Lobos held Rowlett to minus 8 rushing yards, and Longview came away with two interceptions and a fumble. Samuel Loera completed 19 of 33 passes for 235 yards and a TD for Rowlett. Rowlett scored first, taking a 7-0 lead with 11:13 left in the opening quarter, but it was all Longview after that. Washington scored on a 73-yard run just over a minute after Rowlett got on the board, and made it 14-0 with 1:13 left in the opening quarter on an 87-yard TD dash. Longview added a TD pass to build a 21-7 halftime lead, and then got a 59-yard TD run by Mason and two more touchdown passes in the third to build a commanding 42-7 lead. Two more TD passes and a touchdown run in the fourth made the final 63-7. Longview is now 3-0 all-time against Rowlett, with all of the games coming in the playoffs. |
