| LONGVIEW - No points were scored in the second half of Friday's District 10-6A showdown between the Longview Lobos and Rockwall-Heath Hawks.
Longview didn't need them, and the Lobos made sure Heath had limited chances. Johnny Hamilton passed for 270 yards and a couple of touchdowns, and Longview kept its district title hopes alive with a commanding 31-7 win over Heath at Lobo Stadium. The win moves the Lobos to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in district play and drops Heath to 6-2 and 3-1. Longview is scheduled to travel to North Forney on Friday, which fell 56-55 to Heath two weeks ago and also sits at 3-1 in the district. Hamilton hit on his first 10 passes of the night Friday and passed for 235 yards and both scores in the first half. Jaden Hurndon caught five passes for 115 yards and a touchdown, and Kaidon Graves also hauled in a TD pass from Hamilton. Jacaiden Davis and Graves both rushed for touchdowns. Heath standout quarterback Prosper Neal went out with an injury early in the game and did not return. He gained eight yards on his only carry of the night and was injured on that attempt. Backup Collins Jones passed for 85 yards, but the Hawks simply could get nothing going on offense. The Lobos scored on their first four possessions of the game. After the Lobo defense forced a three-and-out to open the game, the Lobos took over at their own 37 and promptly drove 63 yards in nine plays - using 4:08 of game clock - to take the lead on a 23-yard TD pass from Hamilton to Graves on a perfectly executed screen. A Heath punt and a penalty on the play pinned the Lobos down at their own 5-yard line on their next possession, but after a 1-yard gain by Makaden Frazier, Hamilton hit Sean Davis for 12 yards and then went deep to Hurndon for a 55-yard pitch and catch for the TD and a 14-0 lead. The Lobos' Da'Kayden Carter picked off a Neal pass on the next Heath drive. He took it to the house, but the play was called back due to a blindside block. It didn't matter. Three plays later Jacaiden Davis took a direct snap and raced 17 yards for a TD and a 21-0 Lobo cushion at the 3:30 mark of the first period. A 22-yard TD run by Kaidon Graves - following a solid block at the goal line by Jordan Hobbs - made it 28-0 just 1:20 into the second quarter. Heath finally got on the board with a 3-yard run by Jones with 2:51 left in the half, but the Lobos made it 31-7 at the break when Felipe Ayala drilled a 36-yard field goal. The keep away game began after halftime when the Lobos took the opening possession and marched 71 yards in 17 plays - taking 9:42 off the clock. They didn't score, but it limited Heath's chances of getting back in the contest. Heath later drove to the Lobo 1-yard line and had a first-and-goal, but the Hawks couldn't punch it in and a fourth-down pass fell incomplete to seal the shutout for the Lobos. |
