| TYLER - Johnny Hamilton used his arm and his legs on Friday to make sure a rare district loss for Longview didn't turn into a losing streak.
Hamilton passed for 306 yards and two touchdowns and added 66 yards and a touchdown on the ground for Longview as the Lobos rolled to a 63-20 win over the Tyler Legacy Red Raiders in 10-6A action at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. The win, which comes a week after the Lobos lost a 28-24 home decision to Forney, moves Longview to 4-3 overall and 2-1 district play. Tyler Legacy drops to 2-6 and 0-4 with its 21s straight loss to Longview. Hamilton did his damage in a little more than three quarters of action on Friday. The Lobo standout completed his first seven passes of the night and threw for 211 yards and two scores in the first half. He played just four snaps in the fourth quarter, capping his night with a short TD run. Jaden Hurndon caught seven passes for 141 yards and two scores for the Lobos. Jacaiden Davis had four catches for 49 yards to go along with a touchdown run, and Sean Davis hauled in five passes for 79 yards. Mason Washington led the Lobo ground attack with 85 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. Longview finished the night with 540 total yards offensively, including 234 on the ground. Legacy had 288 total yards, with Pearl Jackson (19 carries, 72 yards) and Akyrii White (16 carries, 74 yards) leading the way. White scored all three Red Raider touchdowns. Legacy finished with 86 passing yards, but turned the ball over four times - twice on interceptions to go along with two lost fumbles. Chaztin Wrighten recovered a fumble for Longview, and T.J. Jackson and Jassiah Hill picked off passes. The Lobos got on the board first after Phillip Hamilton had the Hat Trick of Mayhem for the Longview defense - a sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery. Washington turned that into points three plays later with a 9-yard TD run and a quick 7-0 lead. A Tyson Johnson sack on the next Legacy drive forced a punt, and this time the Lobos moved 69 yards in eight plays and extended the lead with a 1-yard run by Frazier. The teams then traded touchdowns over the final 2:30 of the opening quarter, with White scoring on runs of one yard at the 2:30 mark and 21 yard with 10 seconds left and the Lobos getting a 47-yard TD pass from Hamilton to Hurndon with 1:15 remaining. Leading 20-13 after one, the Lobos extended the lead to 34-13 at the break with an 8-yard TD pass from Hamilton to Hurndon and a 1-yard blast by Frazier. Longview put it away with a pair of third-quarter TD runs by Washington (34 and 3 yards), and Hamilton scored on a 3-yard run early in the fourth quarter to boost the lead to 56-13. Legacy mounted a 16-play, 66-yard scoring drive late in the contest, with White carrying the final eight times on the march and scoring on a 3-yard run to make it a 56-20 game. Davis took over at QB for the Lobos, and he scored on a 36-yard run with 1:18 remaining to make the final 63-20. Longview will host Rockwall-Heath next Friday. Legacy is set to visit Rockwall. |
