FORNEY RALLIES PAST LONGVIEW, 28-24
LONGVIEW - Fourth down turned into a nightmare for Longview on Friday, and the Forney Jackrabbits took advantage to earn their first win over the Lobos in program history.

Forney scored twice in the third quarter to erase a 10-point deficit, and then stopped Longview three times on fourth-down conversion attempts in the fourth period on the way to a 28-24 win over the Lobos in District 10-6A action at Lobo Stadium.

Longview drops to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in district play with the loss. Forney, which had lost the previous three meetings against the Lobos, improves to 5-2 and 2-1.

The Lobos took a 24-14 lead early in the third quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run by Kylon Cummings, but Forney got to with a 5-yard run by Javian Osborne at the 7:11 mark of the third quarter and then went in front 28-24 with 1:58 left in the third on an 11-yard TD pass from Nelson Peterson to Wyatt Williams.

The Lobos took their next possession and moved to the Forney 22-yard line, but a dropped pass on fourth-and-5 ended the scoring threat.

After forcing a Forney punt, the Lobos drove from their own 34 to the Forney 4-yard line - the big play coming on a 41-yard pass from Johnny Hamilton to Jaden Hurndon - but on fourth-and-1 from the 4-yard line the Lobos fumbled and failed to convert.

Longview's defense made another stand and forced a Jackrabbit punt with 3:21 left, but on fourth-and-2 from the Forney 40-yard line two Lobos collided in the backfield after a handoff and the ball went over to the Jackrabbits on down - allowing the visitors to run one play and then kneel twice to end things.

Mason Washington rushed for 153 yards on 13 carries, but spent most of the second half on the sideline with an apparent injury. Hamilton completed 13 of 15 passes for 241 yards, and Jaden Hurndon caught six passes for 142 yards.

Osborne carried 25 times for 162 yards for Forney. Peterson went 11 of 17 through the air for 173 yards, and Imari Jehiel caught six passes for 115 yards.

Forney took the early lead when Osborne scored on a 3-yard run at the 7:45 mark of the opening quarter to cap an 11-play, 89-yard drive for the Jackrabbits that took 4:15 off the clock.

The Lobos answered quickly when Washington went up the gut for eight yards on first down and then raced 77 yards on the next snap to tie things at 7-7.

A 35-yard touchdown strike from Peterson to Jehiel with 4:33 left in the opening quarter put Forney on top 14-7, but the Lobos got a 22-yard field goal from Felipe Ayala with 6:32 left in the second and then drove 80 yards in nine plays to take the lead (17-14) on a 36-yard pass from Hamilton to Hurndon.

The Lobos took the opening drive of the second half and marched 79 yards in seven plays, using a 3-yard TD run by Cummings at the 9:26 mark to move in front 24-14, but that was all of the scoring for Longview as Forney added a couple of third-quarter TDs and then turned things over to its defense to seal the deal.

The Lobos will visit Tyler Legacy on Friday. Forney hosts Rockwall.
