| RUSTON - Joaquin Ramos kicked a 21-yard field goal as time expired, lifting the Ruston Bearcats to a 38-35 win over the Longview Lobos on Friday at Hoss Garrett Stadium.
The loss drops the Lobos to 2-2 on the year. Longview will be idle this coming week and then open District 10-6A play at Rockwall on Oct. 3. Ruston remains unbeaten at 3-0. This was the 13th meeting between the two teams. Ruston has won two in a row, but Longview leads the all-time series 7-6. Ruston led 8-7 after one quarter and 22-21 at halftime. The Bearcats outscored the Lobos 13-7 in the third to take a 35-28 lead, but the Lobos tied things late before the Bearcats got the game-winner from Ramos. Johnny Hamilton completed 7 of 14 passes for 129 yards in the loss for the Lobos. Jacaiden Davis went 1 for 2 for 28 yards and a TD through the air. Mason Washington carried 13 times for 68 yards and a TD, and Davis and Hamilton also scored rushing touchdowns for the Lobos. Davis also caught two passes for 41 yards, and Jaden Hurndon added three catches for 44 yards and a TD. Jessier Hampton-Williams had 17 tackles, Lawson Tubb 15 and Hobert Nelson 11 for the Lobos. Sam Hartwell completed 13 of 20 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns and Dalen Powell carried 28 times for 171 yards and a TD for Ruston. Ahmad Hudson caught 9 passes for 109 yards and three scores. The Lobos took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 28-yard TD pass from Davis to Jaden Hurndon and a Felipe Ayala extra point, but Ruston answered with a 1-yard TD pass from Hartwell to Powell and a 4-yard TD run by Lander Smith. The Lobos stayed close with a 16-yard TD run by Washington, and the Longview defense got into the scoring act when James Pierce got a scoop and score - picking up an Ahmad Hudson fumble and taking it back 36 yards for a TD. Hartwell's 29-yard TD pass to Hudson gave the Bearcats a 22-21 halftime lead, and a 74-yard pitch and catch from Hartwell to Powell extended the Ruston lead. The Lobos got a 15-yard TD run by Davis before Hartwell and Hudson connected for another TD pass,but Hamilton's 1-yard TD run tied it at 35-35 to set up the winning field goal by Ramos. |
