LONGVIEW - South Oak Cliff opened Friday night's contest with a long touchdown drive to stake an early 7-0 lead.
Longview responded with 59 unanswered points. With a balanced attack through the air and on the ground, Longview steamrolled the Golden Bears to the tune of 62-14 to wrap the Lobos' non-district slate at Lobo Stadium. Longview (2-1) now opens District 11-6A action against Mesquite Horn on Friday back at Lobo Stadium. South Oak Cliff falls to 0-3 on the season. Senior quarterback Gaylon Wiley completed seven of his 10 passing attempts on the night for a season-high 207 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Astin Henry, who hauled in three catches for 98 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown. Junior tight end Jaylin Brown was on the receiving end of Wiley's second scoring strike for 43 yards. In total, 11 different Lobos carried the ball totaling 307 of Longview's 526 total yards on the night. Sophomore fullback hit paydirt on both of his touches on runs of five and nine yards. Kendrevian White totaled 48 yards on nine carries with a one-yard touchdown. A'Darius Carter and Jaquan Edwards rumbled for fourth-quarter touchdowns on runs of nine and 10 yards respectively. Junior kicker Chris Kessler connected on field goals of 40 and 32 yards, was 8-for-8 on point-after attempts and notched five touchbacks in the win. The Lobos did not punt Friday and scored on every possession except one, a missed field goal. On the other side of the ball, the Lobo defense, after South Oak Cliff's opening drive, held the Golden Bears to 47 total yards on its next six possessions. South Oak Cliff finished 33-for-121 on the ground and had 98 yards in the air. Seniors Kobe Davis and Traveion Webster pulled down interceptions for the Lobos, who also recovered a fumble. After a 17-play, 75-yard drive - aided by a Lobo pass interference call - Traylon Hicks put South Oak Cliff ahead, 7-0, on a two-yard punch in. Longview, in turn aided by three Golden Bear penalties, went 74 yards on 11 plays with White tying it 7-7 on a one-yard punch in. The rest was all Lobos. After a three-and-out from South Oak Cliff, Wiley hit Brown for 43 yards on the next play. The Lobo defense followed with another three-and-out and after connecting on passes of eight yards, Anderson punched in his first touchdown on a nine-yard run. Davis then made a lunging interception, setting up Kessler's 40-yard field goal for a 24-7 Lobo lead with 7:10 left in the second quarter. The next South Oak Cliff possession ended with Webster's interception, setting up Bush's five-yard punch-in after a 34-yard hook-up from Wiley to Henry. With under a minute left until halftime, Jadarrion Blakemore and Ke'Andre Mauldin had big tackles for loss to give the Lobos one more shot when Wiley and Henry connected on a 56-yard field goal for a 38-7 lead at the break. Anderson's second score opened the third quarter and, after a recovered fumble, Longview missed the end zone for the first time on a missed 43-yard field goal with 7:44 left in the third quarter. Carter had a nine-yard score, Edwards punched in one from10 yards away for a 59-7 Lobo lead with 11:13 to play. Hicks' second score capped another long drive from South Oak Cliff with 7:23 to play before Kessler drilled a 32-yard field goal for the 62-14 final. |
